DescriptionThis detailed figurine depicts a warrior dressed for battle. The individual wears a relatively simple protective head cover, quilted cotton armor, and carries a large wooden shield. His high status is indicated by the large jade portrait head he wears on his chest as well as his large earflares. Intricate figurines such as this one were often found on the Maya funerary island of Jaina and this object may have been made to commemorate the accomplishments of a revered ancestor.
