DescriptionAnother example of the Jicote polychrome style, this vessel is shaped like a shoe in order to provide more horizontal surface for decoration while still retaining the liquid inside. Intertwined bands around the rim may represent twin serpents and the painted design below is certainly a supernatural face. When filled with drink, this vessel must have been placed in soft sand or held as the globular base does not allow it to balance on its own.- Art of the Ancient Americas
