C PainterGreece, ca. 575-555 BCE

Named by Beazley for the "corinthianizing" character of his painting, the C Painter was the most prominent painter of Siana cups in the second quarter of the 6th century BCE. His style was significantly influenced by Corinthian miniaturism and added color. He is noted for the energetic poses and bold gestures of his figures that he employed to communicate narrative. He favored military images and he was the first Athenian vase painter known to have depicted the Birth of Athena and the Sack of Troy.
