DescriptionA native of St. Louis, Missouri, Ernest Trova earned national recognition during the 1960s for his image of The Falling Man. This idealized image of man, which he has explored throughout his career, was first painted and then translated into highly polished chrome-plated sculptures. The stark, robotic figure, which is meant to suggest contemporary man's perpetual motion (journey) through life in a technologically complex world, combines the idea of classical sculpture with industrial design. In the sixties Trova was tangentially related to the Pop movement, and was included in 1963 in the important exhibition, Pop Art USA at the Oakland Art Museum.
