DescriptionThe fractured imagery in Sight Seeing, from the 1962 painting of the same title, features roses (a signatory image, as Rosenquist means rose twig in Swedish) and the back view of a sightseeing bus, a sight familiar to Rosenquist from his days as a billboard painter in Times Square. In the original work, real wood strips frame shattered glass. Judith Goldman called the painting a commentary on the true nature of seeing. (James Rosenquist, Viking Penguin, Inc, 1985).On View
