DescriptionThis ceremonial tzute was hand woven using cotton, rayon, and silk. The base of this piece is red and the finished edges are purple and green. Red, yellow, pink, blue, and purple animals such as water birds, roosters, and turkeys are brocaded throughout the piece in silk. The household animals are both significant in the diet and economy of Maya people, but also symbolize messages from the spirit world that are believed to arrive in bird form. The weaver signed this piece in the center. On View
