DescriptionThis tiny mold-made flask may have originally held the deep red pigment preserved still on the outer surface. Specular hematite and other red minerals such as cinnabar were precious offerings used by the ancient Maya in burials and caches. This vessel is decorated with the fat-face god, who may be a variant of the pahuatuns, or earth deities responsible for holding up the sky.On View
