DescriptionThis face mask with eyeglasses may be a depiction of a white man, as determined by the eyeglasses, mustache, hairline, and red face paint. Africans also wore eyeglasses as a prestigious accessory and status symbol. In some instances eyeglasses were regarded as a substitute for the white paint worn around the eyes as spiritual protection during sacred rituals.
