DescriptionThis is a classic maiden mask (Mba) of the Afikpo, worn in Okumpka (New Year's Festival), held at the beginning of the dry season. The defining features of the Mba mask are the relatively realistic facial features (as compared to other Afikpo masks, which are quite abstract for the most part) and the superstructure of a vertical rectangle painted with geometric patterns.
