DescriptionThe historic Luba people are probably descended from the Kisalian culture, which dates from the 8th-10th century. The centralized hierarchic Luba Empire peaked in the 17th century but was later undermined by the Arab slave trade in the 19th century. Luba chiefs and kings make great use of the display of art such as this stool figure as insignia of their authority.
