DescriptionDuring the fifties and sixties, Camel's cigarettes, whose pack featured a camel in the Egyptian desert, was one of America's most popular tobacco brands. Rivers' many appropriations of the commercial imagery probably relate to his fascination with Africa, which he visited twice during the sixties, as much as to his interest in Camel's as a ready-made.
