DescriptionThe incised decoration on the bottom of this bowl is associated with the moon monster of north coast Peru. The finely molded bowl appears to imitate carved gourd vessels. Although the inner surface of the bowl is smooth, there is a raised "stem" bump in the center. Similar examples have been found at Valdivian sites.- Art of the Ancient Americas
