DescriptionOldenburg was fascinated with the idea of a building literally reflecting its use. Geometric Mouse, a variation of this drawing, was originally and humorously introduced as an architectural sketch for a proposed building or colossal monument for Los Angeles in 1968. Clearly, the large, round protrusions, small square windows, and snout-like shape imitate Mickey Mouse of cartoon fame. At the same time, the round forms and scribbled lines also suggest an old-fashioned, exterior reel movie camera. Both allusions are appropriate for a city that gave birth to Walt Disney characters and the motion picture industry.
