DescriptionNever painting from life, Warhol transferred photographs, often greatly enlarged, via a screen printing process. Celebrity portraits were usually derived from studio publicity photos; individual portrait commissions were often based on snapshots. Warhol's stylized portraits were characterized by bright, even lurid colors. Always willing to capitalize on moneymakers, Warhol introduced commercially lucrative, thematic portfolios, including Myths. Until his death, Warhol retained his technological approach to painting but post-1960s, the banal subject matter became more painterly.- Art of North America
