DescriptionThis Mezcala-style temple model shows four columns on top of a platform with a narrow stairway. A small, anthropomorphic figure stands on the roof. This enigmatic feature is seen in other model temples from the Mezcala River region and it may represent the owner or spirit of the temple. The model has been cut from a quadrangular stone piece, and the color and brightness of the stone have been enhanced by the skillful polishing technique. Temple models from Guerrero lack any resemblance to local architectural styles and instead show significant influences from important sites such as Monte Albán in Oaxaca. On View
