DescriptionCarl Folke Sahlin was a pilot and artist who flew throughout Latin America and recorded his travels in watercolors. A popular illustrator of books on the cultures of the New World, Sahlin was exhibited at the Corcoran in Washington D.C. and his depictions of local culture continue to be enjoyed widely today. In this image Sahlin records offerings by Maya priests on the church steps of the main square of Chichicastenango. He paid especial attention to the beautiful textiles worn in this town.
