DescriptionThis figure of a woman holding a nursing baby is modestly decorated with a black and red linear pattern intended to represent garments, jewelry, and/or decorated skin. Part of a class of figurines that show seated women with children within the Fugitive Red Ware tradition, these objects have a perforation at the neck for suspension. The tradition shows signs of contact with later Chiriquí ceramics and clearly emphasizes the social importance of reproduction and childcare.
