    DescriptionPlants of great economic importance were often abstracted into geometric designs on Maya ceramics and especially on daily tools such as spindle whorls. This lovely bowl was made to cover a larger jar, perhaps a storage container of some type. The seven petals of this piece recall the cross section of a ripe cotton boll or squash fruit, both plants that contributed to long distance trade throughout the Maya region.
