DescriptionBetween their conversion to Christianity by 325 and the conquest by Islamic Arab armies in the early 7th century, Egyptians produced art known as Coptic after the Greek word "Copt" for Egypt. Complicated and colorful (primarily red, yellow, and purple) tapestry bands were sewn on to white linen garments. The background cloth for these strips of tapestry has been supplied and is probably not the original garment.
