DescriptionThe artist has formed this male figure so that his legs serve as two of the four legs of the stool upon which he sits. The torso of the figure is covered with a negative resist design which probably represents a textile shirt. Figures from the San Sebastian Red subgroup were typically rendered in burnished red slip with punched slit eyes in a modified coffee bean shape. As was common in the Nayarit culture, the head shape indicated htat intentional deformation was practiced. The hairstyle of this example is composed of a number of plaits which appear as ridges. The multiple earrings are another typical Nayarit feature.
