DescriptionThe Mixteca-Puebla style of the post-Classic period originated in Central Mexico and was transported throughout much of Mesoamerica, where local ceramic traditions produced beautiful pieces such as this one. This bowl has the common tripod shape and is adorned with geometric and symbolic motifs associated with earth and sky. The brightness of the red and white pigment decoration exemplifies the excellent firing technique of Pacific Coast potters. Finished polychrome vessels like this one were widely traded throughout Mesoamerica.
