DescriptionTypical of Oldenburg's other sculptures, Ice Bag, despite its size, is a transformational, rather than a static object. It is being given to fluctuations in dimensions and proportions by design as well as by chance or gravity. In this regard, the kinetic sculpture is also organic, even anthropomorphic. Per the definition and use of a real ice pack, Oldenburg's sculpture is appropriately malleable, mechanically inflating and deflating in imitation of the properties of an actual ice pack, whose shape is altered depending on the amount or condition of its contents.
