DescriptionThis portrait is the mate to a portrait by Rembrandt Peale of Benjamin Orrs Peers, who was the son of Brigade Major Valentine Peers, an officer who saw service at Valley Forge and whose wife's maiden name was Eleanor Orr. This painting is described by Carol Eaton Hevner of the Peale Family Papers, National Portrait Gallery as "a fine example of Peale's early style and I would date it to ca. 1807."
